ECU remaps

We offer a remapping service for all VAG cars From the year 2001 through to 2009, 2010 onwards will follow soon
We are a remapping dealer for Shark Performance, all maps are written based on your cars original ECU file not from a generic file.

Remapping or "chipping" goes by many names, but the principals are the same, changing your engine management data to achieve a little more power and torque from the engine.

If you are after a little bit more power out of your 1.9TDi Golf passat Fabia etc, then a remap is the perfect option with nothing else needed to be done other than the ECU getting a software change.

If you are after big power out of your Turbocharged Golf GTI, Audi S3 or Leon Cupra R then again a remap is perfect for unleashing the potential of the engine. For example the first turbo charged version of the MK4 Golf GTI came with a 150BHP 1.8T engine, the turbo only adds 25BHP to that engine but with a remap these can produce upto 200bhp with no other changes to the car.

On a TDI its not just performance that you can gain, with the levels of torque that they produce they are very good for towing, so if you find yourself thinking the car is not powerful enough for your needs anymore a remap may suit your needs.

All of these performance enhancing upgrades require the car to also have stable suspension / brake setups to handle the extra power / speed the cars are capable of. We can install upgraded suspension parts such as anti roll bars, bushes, coilover suspension etc. We can install upgraded brakes to add safety to the performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I want a remap?
There are many reasons, some more obvious than others. As a remap increases the power output of the engine, there are many advantages. Your vehicle will be quicker, flat spots in the rev range can be eliminated and believe it or not, your fuel economy can increase. The increase in power can be very practical too, particularly for load-lugging and towing.

Why aren't cars "remapped" by the manufacturer?
When a manufacturer builds an engine, the engine needs to run on fuel in every market that the vehicle is sold in, which more often than not is not just in the UK or Europe. In the UK we have much better quality / higher octane fuel than many countries and so with a remap, it is possible to capitalise on some of the unnecessary margins built in by the manufacturer. Also, manufacturers have to build engines that can work in many climate, some much more extreme than our own. The engine has to output the same power whether the ambient temperature is -40C° or +40C°. The manufacturer will always find a happy medium and cater for every eventuality in the standard map which leaves room for improvement.

Is it safe?
Remapping is perfectly safe if it is a good, well developed tune. There is no getting away from the fact that it will put more stress on certain components. The turbo will be worked a little harder, the clutch may wear a little more than usual due to increased torque. However nothing we do will over-stress your engine and we don't push everything to the absolute limit.

Remap options

.: Stage 1 Maps
A stage one map gives a good increase in power with nothing else needed to be done to the car. usually in the VAG Range about 35- 40 BHP can be added to cars

For example the earlier 150BHP 1.8T with the K03 turbo can remap 190-200 BHP (the later 1.8T with the K03S turbo remaps to approximately 210 BHP)

The 130bhp 1.9TDI remaps to 170BHP

.: Stage 2 Maps
These are maps that are used when some of the vehicle's hardware uprated, such as performance exhaust system components, better intercooler, and better air filter. The reason these things get improved is because most of the time they are not good enough from the factory to allow the flow of air or exhaust gasses in and out of the engine. With these replaced the ECU map can run more fueling and boost pressures without raising intake temperatures too high which then leads to a decrease in performance.

These maps may increse power by another 20bhp over the base stage 1 maps

.: Stage 3 Maps
These are fully custom to every car and are used for cars running the stage 2 hardware plus extra hardware including bigger turbochargers and injectors.
